The purpose of the Lifeguarding Full Course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. Successful completion of the Lifeguarding Full Course will result in the following certifications: Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED; Administering Emergency Oxygen; and Bloodborne Pathogens Training. Students must be 15 years old on or before the last day of the course and must be able to pass the prerequisite skills:

• Swim 300 meters continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. You may use front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.

• Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs keeping your arms crossed and hands under the armpits.

• Starting in the water, swim 20 meters using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 meters back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

• All prerequisites will be completed at the beginning of the course.
