The Transitioning to College brief, provided during the Transition Readiness Seminar(TRS), provides guidance to service members and their families on the process and preparations of pursuing a college degree prior to separation from the military. The brief encompasses how to research institutions and educational programs, various options to fund your education, understanding entitled VA educational benefits (MBIG/Post 9-11), the admissions process, the Leadership Scholar Program and additional resources.
The pathway to a degree can seem overwhelming; therefore, we encourage participants to set up a one-on-one counseling session with our Personal and Professional Development Advisors, after the overview. Our advisors can provide information specific to the Service Member’s personal education plan, additional details regarding the programs covered during the overview, and answer any related questions.
Service members must contact their Unit Transition Counselor (UTC) to enroll in the mandatory TRS one year prior to separation from service. For more information and to set up and an appointment with a Personal and Professional Development Advisor, call 645-5778 for Foster and Futenma. For Kinser please call 637-1821. For Hansen, Schwab and Courtney please call 623-4376.
